"Crazy Man Chance"

Life is funny. A brief intro before I dish into the newest breaking news in the Choate family: When Ben and I were first expecting Chance, we both had separate dreams in which this child was a very rambunctious, and "energetic" soul. I had no idea just how true that would be, nor how soon that would manifest itself in Chance's personality and life.

After finally recovering from his month-long bout with diarrhea, I finally felt I could breathe a sigh of relief, but before I could even exhale, Chance proves himself once again to be our "crazy man."

On Friday, I noticed that his left arm was bothering him, but only occasionally, so I watched it, but by Sunday (yesterday) it still wasn't any better. I took him into the doctor. Suspecting a possible dislocation, or fracture we had it x-rayed.

Sure enough, three days before his first birthday, Chance broke his arm! He fractured his little humors bone, which is incredibly funny to Ben, but not so much to me. It is a pitiful sight seeing him in his hard splint and trying so desperately to crawl with his sling that they had to modify because there wasn't one small enough for him.

This new experience now leaves me with only one question: What more do I have to look forward to in this child's future?

Princess

Did you know the Miss America Pageant is this Saturday? Did you know I went for Miss Colorado in 2005 before I married Ben? Crazy, huh! Yeah, so my dream of being Miss America is over now and that's OK. I just want to send a shout out to all the women who are princess even though they never get to wear the tiara.

Christmas Meaning Found

As a young married couple, my husband and I now have the opportunity to start and carry on our Christmas traditions. This has made us both very contemplative over our favorite Christmas memories. I have been wondering what does Christmas really mean to me and how can I best have that Spirit this season.

Through my reminiscing, my mind fell upon a very simple memory, but the more I thought upon it, the more powerful it became. It was the first Christmas of our marriage. We were young, with a brand new baby boy and very little money or material possessions. We lived in a very small one bedroom studio apartment.

On Christmas morning, we invited two missionaries from our church to have Christmas breakfast with us. I wanted it to be extra special. With great excitement, I made pancakes and got out the special flavored syrups that were a real luxury for us. Delicately, I set the table with the table cloth and little bowls and plates that we had received at our wedding. I was so proud to give this breakfast.

Looking back, it was not the little plates, or fancy syrup that made this simple event so special to me, but it was the fact that I gave everything I could, the very best that I had, meager though it was, to another. I realize that this is the true meaning of Christmas that I want to share with my children this and every Christmas season.

This is all that the Lord asks of us. He does not demand that we give him incredible or grand gifts, only that we give the very best of ourselves to others. He gave the best of himself to us and that is the true spirit of Christmas.

Exciting Christmas News!

We are expecting! We found out on Monday that we are pregnant with our third child! Three! My goodness! That's more than I can carry at once!

We are excited and thrilled and nervous (more me than Ben). I am really hoping for a girl. I've been hungry for a baby girl of my own for a long time and am tempted to start knitting little hats and making headbands, but I won't get ahead of myself. Of course, I'll be happy for another boy too.

I feel really good so far. Looks like the due date will be about August 18, 2009. A summer baby, that will be fun!
